| Richland, Washington WA - Mattel could not have known that Chatty Cathy would become one of the doll icons of the 20th Century when they introduced her in 1959. She was one of the first dependable talking dolls, and almost instantaneously attracted a mob of tiny admirers. She was followed by a variety of Chatty Babies and other Chatty dolls in 1962 and 1963, and then as suddenly as she appeared, she was withdrawn. Mattel reissued a hard plastic version of her in 1969, authorized a porcelain version in 1980, and later reissued her in its Classics Collectibles series, but none of these stirred the rampant enthusiasm of the original dolls. This is a 191/2 inch, second issue of Mattels original Chatty Cathy Doll. She was made in 1960. Chatty Cathys circular speaker grill is covered with a tan circular piece of cloth. Her molded body markings read, CHATTY CATHY T.M. // PATENTS PENDING // MCMLX // BY MATTEL, INC. // HAWTHORNE, CALIF.. The circular Mattel Toymakers, Inc. logo is located below the markings. She has her Magic Ring, and talks if the Magic Ring is slowly released. Chatty Cathy has short, rooted brunette hair, blue eyes, a soft vinyl head with gray freckles and eyebrows, and prominent teeth, and a hard plastic body with a pointing index finger right hand. She |
